Cozy Winter Decor

Decorate your home using tree branches from your backyard.

The holidays are over and we return to the dreary dark days of January. Winter can really do a number on you when you live in Ohio. It's always cloudy and you rarely see the sun.

So how can you create a warmer and brighter home to lift your spirits during the winter doldrums. I've got a few ideas.

Wine corks are the perfect fill for your vases.

Go for warmer colors like yellows, tans, browns and golds. Accessorize the different corners of your homes with the rustic feel of winter. Wooden branches, grapevine balls and candles nestled around pine cones or shelled nuts are easy low-cost options.

Move your existing decor around. Give your mantle a facelift. Swap out burnt out light bulbs and replace with something brighter.  Winter is already dark enough.

If you have a fireplace, use it. As the temperatures dip there's nothing like cozying up to a warm fire. Add extra pillows and throws to your gathering spots.

Don't forget the green and a few pops of color.  January is the perfect month to fertilize and trim up your house plants. A bright floral bouquet from the grocery store will brighten up any tabletop and cost just a few dollars.

Use a coffee table tray to display your favorite books and add a floral sprig of spring to come.

And last let's not forget that spring is right around the corner. So enjoy the season even though it's cold outside.
