Ernest Hemingway liked his daiquiri sour. Too sweet and you just can't drink as many, according to the author.

Also known as a Papa Doble, this is the perfect refresher on a hot summer day.

Do you like it tart?

Me too!

My dad introduced me to this libation several years ago after finding a recipe in the Wall Street Journal for this classic cocktail, the Hemingway.

A slight variation to the traditional Hemingway which uses grapefruit juice, his recipe uses freshly squeezed orange juice.

It's OK to cheat. Tropicana works just fine. Make sure you use fresh limes. You can taste the difference.

Maraschino liqueur is hard to find. I've never found it in Ohio. So if you come across any brand of maraschino liqueur, buy it. It won't go to waste in your liquor cabinet.

Maraschino is a liqueur from the city of Zadar in Croatia, obtained from distilled Marasca cherries including their crushed pits which give it a bittersweet almond flavor.

Add it to any cocktail and it transforms the flavor. Maraschino liqueur is not the same thing as syrup from a cherry jar. Do not use that stuff!

The Hemingway, named after the author, will soon become a favorite if not already.

A traditional Hemingway calls for a blender, including adding shaved ice.  You're supposed to blend all the ingredients together - frappe style.

I just use a jar and shake it bartender style. Then I pour it over ice. That's my preferred way.

Serve these cocktails in a Champagne glass, rocks glass or goblet.

Is a little too tart? Here's a tip from dear ole mom.  She likes a little sugar on the rim. Takes away the bite 😉.
