Wine Down Wednesday - No. 2

It's Wine Down Wednesday and I've tried a few more Cabernet Sauvignons.

Don't be afraid to try something new when you're selecting a bottle at the grocery store. Likewise, when you're out to dinner ask your waiter for his recommendation off the wine list if you need help. Trust me, they will not recommend something that is not popular or delicious. Just tell them your price range and what kind of wine you want to drink.

Wintertime is a perfect time to enjoy full-bodied reds with that jammy finish. Spring is right around the corner and with it lighter, fruitier whites. But until then let's take a look at a few more Cabernets.

Have you ever been to Napa or Sonoma, California? If you love wine it's definitely worth the trip to visit old wineries and discover new ones. We discovered the next three wines in wine country and are lucky to find two locally here at home.

Great Cabernet Sauvignon Wines for under $30

Charles Krug - 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

Yountville, California - retails for $30.

"Aromas of black cherry, currents and a hint of tobacco...on the palate, cocoa and cassis blend with supple tannins that lead to a graceful, elegant finish."

Brewster and I discovered this winery in 2000. It's been a favorite ever since. When you can find it on the shelf, snatch it up.

Franciscan Estate -  2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley, California – retails for $29

"Dark cherry, clothes, blackberry and violets open up in the glass, followed by traces of tobacco. Hence the vanilla and Coco dust add complexity to the rich aroma...The finish evokes dark cherry and sage, with hints of allspice and vanilla that linger seamlessly."

We visited the Franciscan estate in 2000 and 2010. We loved it so much the first time we had to visit it on our return. We bought a bottle of Cab and enjoyed it on the winery patio.

Robledo - 2009 - Cabernet Sauvignon

Carneros, California - retails for $35.

"Our 2009 vintage has a beautiful, deep burgundy color.  Intense aromas of juicy wild blackberries, a mixture of delicious dark ripe fruit, cassis, mocha and a hint of toffee.  Layers of smooth, soft, silky tannins.

Brew and I outside the winery Robledo. We loved it. One of our favorites!

If you ever see a bottle of wine from this winery, buy it because it will not disappoint. Every single bottle of wine I've had from Robledo has been delicious. Maybe that's why we have been part of their wine club. It's a difficult wine to find locally which is why we had it shipped directly to us.
