Basic Barbeque Rub

Basic Barbeque Rub

As promised, this simple and basic barbeque rub is my go-to for tastier ribs, beer can chicken and anything that needs seasoning or fantastic flavor.

I often flip to this rub recipe in Steve Raichlen's How to Grill bible. This simple basic barbecue rub will lead to raving reviews for anything you grill. Trust me!

This simple dry rub is what I use on my Fall Off The Bone Baby Back Ribs and my Beer Can Chicken. It transforms the pork and chicken into what Raichlen calls "American Barbecue."

I've included a link to Raichlen's cookbook on Amazon because if there is anything you want to learn about grilling, this is the bible.

Basic Barbeque Rub

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sweet paprika
  • 3 tablespoons black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons coarse salt
  • 1 tablespoon hickory-smoked salt or more coarse salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir to mix. (Actually, your hands work better for mixing than a spoon or whisk does. Use your fingers to break up any lump of brown sugar.) Store the rub in an airtight jar away from heat or light; it will keep for at least 6 months.

Makes 1 cup of rub. Recipe by Steven Raichlen, How to Grill.
