Seasoning blends

These are a few different ways to flavor crispy chickpeas. Experiment with your favorite flavor combo.

Cinnamon and sugar: this is a sweet and crunchy option for roasted chickpeas. That makes them taste like a dessert.

Everything bagel: this seasoning blend features poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried garlic, dried onion powder and salt.

Barbecue: make your own BBQ spice or use your favorite brand.

Ranch: simply grab a packet of your favorite ranch seasonings in the salad dressing aisle of your local grocery store.

Chili powder and lime: this citrusy seasoning has a punch of spice that is just as delicious on corn on the cob as it is on chickpeas.

Paprika, cayenne pepper and garlic powder: keep it simple with these spice flavors that are always a favorite.

Best results for crunchy air fryer chickpeas

  • Dry the chickpeas as much as possible before seasoning and air frying. You can either air dry chickpeas on a towel for an hour or dry them in the air fryer for 5 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  • Use enough oil to coat the chickpeas, but not too much that they become soggy. You need a quick spritz of oil per can of chickpeas.
  • Spread the chickpeas in a single layer in the air fryer basket or rack. Roast at 400°F for 15 minutes cooking time, shaking the basket occasionally, until they are crispy and golden.
  • Not all air fryers are the same. Your specific air fryer may cook them faster or slower. Cooking them at 400°F for 15 minutes or until they are crispy and golden is ideal.
  • Enjoy the chickpeas while they are still warm then store them in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes to restore their crunchiness.

Can you eat chickpeas, raw?

No, you should not eat chickpeas raw.

Dried beans should be soaked and cooked before eating them.

Alternatively, you can eat canned chickpeas that are already cooked.

Can you roast canned chickpeas in the oven?

Yes, chickpeas can be roasted in the oven at 400° on a baking sheet with parchment paper.

If you don’t have an air fryer, simply spread the chickpeas in a single layer and bake them in a 400° F oven for about 25 to 35 minutes until they are golden brown and crisp.
