  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 large apple, peeled and diced
  • Splash of lemon juice
  • 1 bag fresh cranberries

  • In a medium pot, bring the water, sugar, cinnamon and salt to boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
  • Add a splash of lemon juice to the apples and toss. Rinse the cranberries, tossing the bruised berries.
  • Add the cranberries and apples to the pot and cook for about 10 minutes until the cranberries pop and the apples soften. Once the sauce has thickened, mash the diced apples and any remaining cranberries in the pot.
  • Allow the sauce to cool then transfer to a bowl and refrigerate completely.

This cranberry sauce can be made several days ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Any leftovers are delicious served over cheesecake as well as topped over goat cheese crostini.
